|The Scottish Police College hold a lecture telling how “criminal gangs” have entered the IPTV and Kodi box market, which resulted in the increase of this type of piracy by 143% in the past year alone. The lecture was attended by Trading Standards, HM Revenue & Customs and the UK Intellectual Property Office.
Police Scotland discussed emerging threats in intellectual property crime, explaining how modified Kodi devices enrich “criminal gangs”. The event was dedicated to the booming area of intellectual property infringement, primarily through the organized sale of Android-style set-top boxes that are pre-configured for piracy. Such devices with necessary addons are sold through eBay, Amazon, and hundreds of other online and offline adverts.
It is unsurprising that both police and rights owners are equally alarmed by the rise in sales of these devices. On the other hand, the sellers of these devices are feeling the heat and understand that they increasingly attract police attention. However, they insist that it’s not their fault that Kodi business is booming and blame content providers for charging subscribers too much.
The police point out that there’s a public perception that Kodi is a commodity which is victimless. As such, they believe that prevention is an important part of the fight, so the law enforcement authorities need to change attitudes and behaviors of people to prevent damage to the creative industries. Despite the controversy over “piracy” Kodi devices, their convenience and bargain-basement pricing ensures that they will remain popular worldwide.

Oh yeah lets stop slinging dope and guns, and push kodi boxes.
Im sure they jumping all over it.
I got that exact same box as the picture......Unless Amazons a criminal gang, this is a distraction ploy.......
Scottish Dave I know must be so out of touch he just sells drugs will tell him to get straight onto the kodi boxes : D
@n2kmaster, hey, me too! that is one solid little doodad!
time for a new knockoff nigel advert
When one person sells a dodgy Kodi box. He or she, is a mere petty criminal. When three people sell the same product, it has now become, a criminal organized gang ! lol
Also, the very same police force that allows a convicted crazed insane criminal to carry a gun. One who ignored a restraining order and attempted to murder his ex-wife. She required a long and extensive hospital stay, in order to recover from the severe injuries he inflicted upon her. His current continuing job description "a special force armed police officer(the ones that carry the obsolete by 1990, spray and pray H&K MP5's)".

@DumbDumberandheystoopid Dude your tinfoil hat is too tight and you need to wash your skanky Street preacher ass.
I actually feel my Iq drop a few points every time I see one of your posts.
What's you end game here? what's your point? I
would actually honestly like to know. If you can actually string together a simple cohesive paragraph.
With the exception sounding like the crazy stinking slept in his own vomit street paranoid? the one teaching the mass's fables that he's learned, Your not doing much except showing exactly how off your meds you are.
Ah! yes now the legit sellers of Kodi are the "REAL criminal master minds according to the Police? Too hard to chase the real criminals, I see?
Much ado about nothing.
You got that one right number nine.
For IPTV, one needs a relatively fast 100Mbit one terabit plus monthly plan. This limits you to stream 37 TV channels maximum, with zero other Internet activity. That is, if your IP provider has zero congestion problems and allows for full speed access 24/7/365! .
One Gigabit speed, gives you the capacity to stream 370 channels across your internal smart QOS fast gigabit "hard wired" network.
The average user ADLS2+ is under 5Mbit. This is just far too slow for any IPTV MPEG-4 HD video...............
In addition, Sky IPTV sends you a time limited prepaid in full or monthly direct debit your account subscription card in the snail mail. This card has an IPV address. Plus channel limits/grade access code and an authorized end user access server login code.
The much maligned Kodi Box. By using open source copyleft software. The unit is fully capable of resolving all current, new, and future planned video and audio codecs. How dare any evil open source copyleft software be allowed to resolve MPEG-4 HD!
The Chief Inspector who made that big lie to the press and Sky TV Media, that day. Rumor had it, there was a rather evil stench that quickly permeated that hall.
Ah, Sky TV UK! The well known purveyor of fear of the ten million to one odds, in a one hundred year time frame.
There is a terrorist hiding under every bed! Better dead than be invaded by the evil Red Communista North Korea! Or is it Russia? Or China? Or just another Syrian Government not ISIS poop gas mains leak? Or Iraq's weapons of mass deception? Endless recycled same old same old repeats since first broadcast in 1990! Unwanted advertising on a top pound premium paid service. The ongoing broadcast of the 99.998% lies, propaganda, and evil fake news since 1990.
One should expect no less, from such a disreputable organization. One that poops daily and treats all its customers as foolish "Chicken Littles"!
If they ever managed to make these Kodi boxes illegal to sell, my world would simply implode...oh wait...we'd still have Raspberry Pi.
Thanks Sam, last week I purchased a Roku and Fire Stick...the Roku for my son and the Fire Stick for me. After reading this article, I purchased the Kodi Box and it will arrive at my place tomorrow.
those kodi boxes here in melbourne, australia sell for up to $400 EACH at computer swap meets...

"Pre-configured for Piracy", seems only fair given almost every other device in the world is pre-configured for surveillance.

I have to be completely honest here. I lived in China for a few years and those people were great and wonderful.
Now, again being honest, there were (just like in any country) the good people and the bad people. The good people there who went to University to make their lives and the lives of their families better, all wanted to work for a US-based company and come to the US to work - but ONLY for a limited time. Then they wanted to come back to China and bring all the knowledge they'd gained home. About 99% of the people who I worked with wanted to eventually come back to China to work, share their knowledge and raise their families.
Now, about the bad people. Back when the Nintendo Wii was the latest and greatest thing, I bought a hacked Wii over there for $100 USD. Then I bought the games for $5 USD each. At that time in the US, you could buy the Wii for $225 USD and then hack it yourself or get it hacked for about $50 USD. And the games were about $20 - $100 USD. I also bought Tiffany jewelry there for $10 USD for bracelets and $25 USD for a necklace/bracelet set. I bought Nike Shox for $10 USD and ended up with 16 pairs. I'm SURE they were knockoffs, but they looked and wore the same as the real ones. I bought NHL Hockey jerseys for $20 USD and had one for almost every team. Honestly, the place was full of knockoffs, but very well done knockoffs. And they weren't criminal gangs. Usually, it was just a regular family at the market.
